Ancient Egypt. Land of thousands of years of history and unique culture. Travel with us through the sands of time and visit this beautiful country.

Ancient Egypt has always been a source of interest to people of all time periods. Ancient Greeks, Romans, Napolean’s French through modern times.

The façade of uniformity presented through the differing ancient Egyptian dynasties lead early historians to misunderstand the complexities of ancient Egyptian culture and religious beliefs, preferring to superimpose their own beliefs on what they were seeing. But Ancient Egyptian practices persevered through the Helenizing Greeks, the acquisition by Rome, until the onslaught of Christianity.

In 356 A.D., the Emperor Constantius II ordered the closure of the Ancient Egyptian temples. The closures started in the north and slowly trickled south. In 380 A.D. Emperor Theodosius declared Christianity the state religion of Rome and its provinces, the trickle became a gush, leading to the massacre of the priests of the Serapeum in 391 A.D. The old ways were gone with the closure of the temple of Philae. The language slowly died too.

Ancient Egypt was gone but not forgotten. Temples were covered over with churches and mosques, but they still existed. The rediscovery of Ancient Egypt started with Napolean’s scientific team and their monumental work DESCRIPTION DE L’EGYPTE, Champollion’s decipherment of the ancient language, and successive generations of archaeologists.

So let us follow in their footsteps and journey through the portal to the past. Enter Ancient Egypt with us.
